Robot Tug of War Rules

Use traction, torque and controlled mechanical force to pull the opposing robot across the designated line.

TECHNICAL INSPECTIONFAIR PLAYSAFETY PROTOCOL

1. Objective

  • Pull the opposing robot across the designated line.
  • A clear loss, immobilisation or crossing of the losing line determines the result as defined by the arena briefing.

2. Starting Protocol

  • Robots must begin in the marked starting zones.
  • The match starts only on the judge’s signal.
  • Teams may not physically touch, hold, push or pull a robot after the round begins unless the judge stops the round.

3. Mechanisms

  • Hooks, tethers and pulling mechanisms must meet the event safety requirements.
  • Mechanisms must not be designed to injure people or damage the arena.
  • Excessive force or an unsafe mechanism may be stopped by the judge.

4. Safety

  • Every robot must pass technical inspection.
  • Power systems and batteries must remain within the announced limits.
IMPORTANT: Event-day briefing, technical inspection and judge instructions may provide additional arena-specific requirements. Those safety instructions take precedence where stricter.
